This week, I read page 1-34 in the the book Night by Elie Wiesel. What struck me while reading this was how Romania's own government turned against their own citizens. Wiesel memoir begins in Romania 1941, Wiesel is 13 years old, and his family knows well of what the Nazis are doing but they are not worried. This was because they believed that the Red Army would overpower the Germans at the Western Front and seize them to invade Romania. Little did they know that their own government collaborated with Germany and that soon their normal lives would turn up side down.
In the beginning of his memoir, Wiesel's life goes back and forth. Something bad will happen but then he states after a few days "life went back to normal". What does he mean by back to normal? These Jewish men and women in Romina relied on another force to save them but not only did the Red Army make a pack with the Germans but, there own government did so to gain more power. For a country to turn against there own citizens is hard for me to think about. Would if America decided that they were going to allow Isis come in and take citizens. It's betrayal. I think this shows how power hungry countries were and are now. The Holocaust is a horrible thing but haven't other countries done similar things. For example, terrorists attacked the Twin Towers in New York City killing thousands of people. Why? Because anyone who's not their religion should be killed.
What chills me to the bone is how some Christians just watched their neighbors or maybe friends walk to their death bed. The whole point of being a Christian is to help others and stand up for what is right. How can Hitler say that it is best for a community to flourish without the Jewish when Christian teaching says to embrace diversity. God put us all on this Earth with a purpose and our we have to embrace that and be able to be who we want to be. Everyone is born with the potential to be good some choose to be and as you see in The Holocaust some don't.
The last thing that shocked me was how fast the Nazi Party took over Europe, this shows not only was this plan strategic and thorough, but Hitler had these plans for Germany a long time ago. This week we watched a video about how Hitlers plan to take over Europe was practically in genius. He made a clear path for the future and if it wasn't for France and Russia they might have accomplished their plan. Overall this week was a heavy one, but I'm enjoying learning more about the Holocaust and how I learned that faith can get you throughThe struggles you have in life. I'm sorry but one thing I have to say, is why would Hitler say the perfect race would be blue eyes and blonde hair when he has brown hair, that's so stupid. "Sometimes you just have to bow your head, say a prayer, and weather the storm."
