In the past couple of weeks we have talked about social justice and racism. What is social justice? Social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities. Social workers aim to open the doors of access and opportunity for everyone, particularly those in greatest need. Our founding fathers stated that America is a country of equality and freedom. But they still had slavery after that. So the question I ask you is why is there still racism in America. If we are a country that free for all men and women why is there still Stereotypes about different races. This is why African American kids are getting shot and why some people don't have the same wages. If we stripped off the skin of everyone man would look the same. But why do we have to look the same to be equal human beings. We should all just be able to be who we are no matter what gender or race and not be judge.
So is there even social justice. In the Michael Brown case the officer was not convicted or murdering Brown, but was that because the officer was white and Michael Brown was black. Did this cop shoot Brown because of the stereotypes about African American people. I don't know really.
If we live in a world of Stereotypes and racism how can our social justice system be improved. I honestly don't know how it can be. America has an amazing social justice system but at the end of the day even when we don't know it we might not convict someone because there white. This is not the case usually but if it is really close it sometimes is. This makes me sad because if the new generation follows the footsteps of others then racism will go on forever. We need to take a stand and end this! Sometimes we don't even know if we are being racist because it has become a norm. Now that shows how long racism has been going on which shows that it time to stop it. I challenge the new generation of the world to make Stereotypes disappear and racism end.I know in my heart that we are all equal because that's what God tells us. He died for all of us not just for white people so he sends a message to us through that. If he can loves all of us no matter what race or gender we are why can't we do the same.
In our lives we have to do what God would want us to do. I try everyday in my life not to follow Stereotypes and just accept everyone for who they are on the inside not the outside. There will always be bad and cruel people in the world but we have to come together as Catholics and let them know thats not the way to live. Be kind and create a path for generations to follow.
